Dear Whispering Pines Metro District Residents,

We’d like to remind everyone that the City of Aurora has a leash law in place to ensure the safety of pets, residents, and local wildlife. All dogs leaving their property must be on a leash no longer than ten feet, held by a person physically able to control them. Violations may result in fines and increased liability for the pet owner.

Additionally, the Whispering Pines Design Guidelines (July 2024) state:

Section 2.39

...All household pets shall be controlled by their Owner and shall not be allowed off the Owner’s Lot except when properly leashed and accompanied by the pet Owner or such Owner’s representative. All Owners shall be responsible for the immediate removal and proper disposal of any pet waste deposited on Common Areas. In addition, all Owners shall routinely remove and dispose of accumulations of pet waste deposited on any Lot so as to maintain an appealing appearance and control odors. Each Owner of a household pet shall be financially responsible and liable for any damage caused by said household pet.

Additionally, the Fine Schedule (Enforcement of Governing Documents, October 26, 2021) applies—see item #7 for details.

Why Leash Laws Matter:

As this is a serious safety issue for all residents and pets, strict enforcement will be applied to ensure compliance. Homeowners found allowing pets off-leash may face enforcement action in accordance with community regulations (see below, # 7).

Many of these risks can be easily avoided by keeping your dog leashed. If you witness an off-leash dog, please contact Aurora Animal Services at 303-326-8288.

The board is also working on adding additional pet stations within the district to help maintain cleanliness and convenience for all residents.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe and enjoyable for everyone!
